MCN Build was retained by Turner Impact to deliver under a design-build arrangement, Rocketship DC Public Charter School’s flagship school in
Ward 8. MCN teamed up with Shinberg Levinas Architects for the delivery
of this 60,000SF campus scheduled to receive LEED Certification at the Platinum level.

The campus sits on over 5 acres of land with pronounced topography and a natural stream running through it. When positioning and massing the building on-site, our team took into consideration the scale of the neighborhood and constructability constraints to design a structure that respects and engages the neighborhood, while leaving ample space for outdoor play and providing natural views from all educational spaces. A natural trail enhances the student experience by allowing safe walks through the preserved undeveloped natural scape.

The two-story composite structure features a welcoming agora with double volume linking the large assembly spaces to the educational wing. The first floor of the educational wing houses the early childhood classrooms run
by AppleTree Public Charter School. The school features triple glazing, photovoltaic panels, polished concrete floors throughout, floating ceilings, and state of the art IT and AV systems.MCN Build is currently facilitating preconstruction services for the second Rocketship DC Charter School,
which is scheduled to open in Ward 7 for the fall 2017 school year.
