Arlington Fire Station No. 8

Arlington Fire Station No. 8 is a completed two-phase redevelopment project that reflects Arlington County’s commitment to sustainability, resilience, and community service. The project began with the construction of a temporary station to ensure uninterrupted emergency services to the Halls Hill neighborhood and surrounding areas while the new permanent facility was under construction.

The new 21,000-square-foot station replaced an outdated structure and includes three apparatus bays, living quarters, operational support areas, and a community meeting room. The design prioritizes firefighter health and operational efficiency, focusing on daylighting, optimized circulation, and durable, high-performance systems. Sustainable features include a green roof, rooftop solar panels, and high-performance spray foam insulation, creating a highly energy-efficient and environmentally responsible facility.

The second phase of the project included site improvements such as new parking areas, three underground fuel tanks, and infrastructure for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, providing long-term flexibility as emergency vehicle technologies evolve.

Arlington Fire Station No. 8 now stands as a modern, resilient facility that honors the legacy of the historically Black Halls Hill community and supports the long-term needs of the County’s first responders.
