MCN Build was chosen as the Construction Manager for the renovation and expansion of the National Presbyterian Church (NPC). The approximate 12.5-acre campus houses NPC and the National Presbyterian School (NPS) and includes several other buildings. The main church building had not been significantly upgraded or renovated since its initial construction nearly 50 years ago. In 2015, NPC’s Session (leadership) appointed a Facility Master Planning Team (FMPT) to lead the church in a master planning effort. The proactive historic designation approach intends to preserve multiple future options for construction and campus use.

The historic National Presbyterian Church was a complex project on an active site, occupied by the NPS and NBC 4, with heavy traffic along Nebraska Avenue. This project involved adding three new conference rooms, reprogramming and renovating other interior spaces, and upgrades to the fire alarm and mechanical systems. Alongside Beyer Blinder Belle Architects, we created sanctuary terrace areas, a new garden, and a stormwater bio-retention system, all while salvaging limestone from the existing facade to clad the new addition. Much of the work focused on minimizing NPC’s environmental footprint.
