MCN Build collaborated with Southway Builders to convert an existing building into an accommodate for the rising needs of Green Street Academy. Co-founded by Warnock Foundation chairman David Warnock, the public charter school serves middle and high school students in Baltimore. This renovation project was an extreme transformation of the former Gwynn Falls Junior High School on the West side of Baltimore City.
The building had been dormant for years until Kingdom Life Church began renting out the auditorium and other administrative areas. Even then, the building sat in a blighted condition, displaying broken windows that enhanced the decay of the existing infrastructure. MCN Build, along with Southway Builders, worked with Seawall Development and Hord | Coplan | Macht to restore the historic façade, and interior features like the terrazzo flooring and wood trim. The installation of polished concrete floors, new mechanical and electrical services, a full service kitchen and a state of the art technology package, was all performed in 8 months while the Kingdom Life Church remained operational.
Today, the new building has more than 8 acres of green space, nearly 150,000SF of learning space and has become more accessible to staff, students, and visitors. This project was completed ahead of schedule for a seamless transition for the staff and students of Green Street Academy.
