The Atlantis
The Atlantis is a state-of-the-art, intimate music venue created to provide a platform for both big-name and up-and-coming artists to showcase their talents. The 450-capacity space offers a vibrant scene and an air of nostalgia as it pays homage to the original Atlantis music venue at 930 F Street NW. The building was erected on the site of the old Satellite Bar, which had been demolished adjacent to the existing 9:30 Club.
Strict acoustic requirements were critical to the success of this project. A combination of construction techniques was employed to achieve optimal sound quality, including micro-piles, isolated floor slabs, isolated CMU walls, and isolated walls and ceilings. Steel components were placed on acoustic bearings to isolate sound further, while high Sound Transmission Class (STC) rated doors and acoustic paneling were implemented throughout the venue. The result is a cutting-edge acoustic performance space.
Replicating the nostalgia of the original Atlantis music venue located at 930 F Street NW was achieved through carefully selected materials and design, with a custom laser-cut façade system comprised of over 500 pieces with extruded shapes, meticulously mimicking the iconic stone facade of the original venue evoking a sense of nostalgia reminiscent of the 1980s downtown DC music scene. The venue boasts various critical components, including a performance stage, a wraparound mezzanine for an optimal viewing experience, and two indoor bars. A rooftop bar provides an additional space for patrons to enjoy, while a green room offers a backstage sanctuary for performers. The spacious standing room ensures ample space for the audience to enjoy the performances. Essential amenities such as a ticket booth, restrooms, and offices were also incorporated into the design.
The construction and design of the Atlantis music venue created an environment that nurtures artistic growth and fosters the vibrant music scene of Washington, DC.
