Howard University broke ground on the historic Myrtilla Miner Building on the first day of Black History Month. Constructed in 1913, the building originally served as a teacher-training school for African Americans and is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places for its significant role in Black Education in Washington, DC.

MCN is honored to have been selected to rehabilitate this 109-year-old building as a part of Howard University’s most immense campus redevelopment project in history. The restored building will house the Howard University School of Education and the Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Sciences, echoing its original use. The Myrtilla Miner Building is listed in the National Register of Historic Places for its significant role in Black Education in Washington, DC. The approximately eighty thousand square feet of the building were constructed in 1913 and served as a teacher-training school for African Americans.
