MCN Build’s involvement with the Wahler Place Campus started in 2009, working with the Charter School Incubator Initiative, to help Achievement Prep Public Charter School, a consistently high-performing Tier 1 school, collocate with the Draper Elementary School program, which was run by DC Public Schools.Since then, multiple smaller projects aimed at accommodating the growth of Achievement Prep and their occupancy of the full site have been performed.

In 2014, the planning efforts began for a two-year plan to expand the existing site from a 50,000SF single building for grades 4 through 8 into a 105,000SF, two building campus for grades PreK3 through 8, completed by the start of the 2016 school year. The two-phase plan included the construction of the new middle school in December of 2015 followed by the renovation of the existing structure for delivery in August of 2016. The two buildings are connected by a covered walk spanning a programmed courtyard. In addition to the building expansion, the flow of traffic through the site and the site features were reengineered to address the increased demand at drop-off/pick-up and parking. The completed campus was designed to receive LEED certification at the Gold level.
